Statements

Opinions from the health sector

Dr. Sigrid Pilz

Viennese attorney for nursing care and patients

”Our healthcare system is complex and lacks transparency. It is therefore very difficult for citizens to orient themselves and make meaningful decisions. Institutions such as aha. can help to ensure that information is made available to all people in a systematic and quality-assured manner. This will improve health literacy and enable people to design their own health biographies more effectively.”

Dr. Thomas Szekeres

President of the Austrian Medical Association

“The Austrian healthcare system provides low-threshold access and is very good by international standards. Nevertheless, it needs to be further developed, especially with regard to identifying the “best point of
service“. We wish the new research institution every success in helping to continue to provide people with the
best possible healthcare system.“

Univ. Professor Dr. Dr.h.c. Christoph Zielinski

Head of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Vienna Cancer Center

“The Austrian Health Academy closes an important gap between health policy and scientific evidence,
which can result in sustainable and future-oriented decisions. The personalities involved guarantee factually
oriented decision-making, which in turn should lead to the sustainable, effective, just and efficient
design of health policy sought by the Academy.“

Mag.a pharm. Dr.in Ulrike Mursch-Edlmayr

President of the Chamber of Pharmacists

“Interdisciplinary primary care centers are an important part of a well-functioning health care system. The Austrian pharmacies not only ensure a smooth and safe supply of medicines to the population, but also help
with the early detection of chronic diseases through advice at the Tara and support with specific therapies so
that the Austrian population can enjoy health into old age. As an important local care provider, we therefore
welcome interdisciplinary care centres as the first point of contact for patients in the sense of professionalising
the health care system and efficient, comprehensive patient care. With its research, aha. can provide an
important impetus in this direction in favour of a prospering health care system in Austria.“

O. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christian Herold

Head of the University Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Medical University of Vienna

„Compared internationally, our health care system offers both high quality and largely barrier-free access
to most medical services. In order to prepare it for current and future challenges and t o maintain its existing
advantages, it must undergo structural change. The Austrian Health Academy, with its broad-based expertise, will contribute to the success of this long-term and challenging endeavour.“

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Hermann

Board member of the Rudolfstiftung Hospital, Semmelweis Frauenklinik

“The Austrian healthcare system has long been in need of reform, but there are still no signs of any significant improvements. In an institution like the Austrian Health Academy, I therefore place great hopes in
ensuring innovation, improvement of the health care system with simultaneous cost awareness and optimisation
of patient care beyond party boundaries, relevant interest groups, trade unions, health insurance funds and federalism.“

As a health policy think tank, the aha. is looking for new ways to a solid and future-oriented health system. We analyse, inform and advise.
